FRIDAY
We departed for Interlaken in the early morning, and after 5 hours of traveling, we finally made it to Interlaken. Interlaken is probably one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen. A small town nestled between two lakes and surrounded by the Swiss Alps. We were basically on a real life set of “Frozen”. Once we got checked into our hotel, we set off for some food. Switzerland is known for their cheese, chocolate, and the Alps, but not for their food (found that out the hard way). I got this yucky beef tartare thing that looked like dog food, but at least the view from the café was nice.
After lunch, we went to go find chocolate. We got a cappuccino torte, which was delicious from the Grand Restaurant SchuhI. We found this lake called Lake Thun on google maps and we wanted to go there. We took this random road down to the Lake. There were lots of cute feral cats wandering around. We went during sunset, so it was very buggy though. We got to this pier and watched the sunset and then headed back to the hotel before it got too dark.

SATURDAY
I WENT PARAGLIDING! It was so fun and amazing to see Interlaken from above. The pilots were all super nice and fun, and I even got to pilot for a couple of minutes. I would do it again in a heartbeat. I definitely suggest doing it in the morning, because it isn’t as windy and better chance of good weather (I went at 7:15am). I went through Paragliding-Interlaken and they have a little booth by the main square in Interlaken.

After I went paragliding, Maggie, Sarah and I wanted to go hiking. We didn’t realize it was up a very tall mountain called Harder Klum. We didn’t anticipate how steep it was going to be. It was like putting a treadmill on the steepest incline for two straight hours. We were about dead by the time we got to the top, but the views were worth it. We ate at the top, we don’t suggest the food, but their hot chocolate was to die for. We went down the mountain in a cable car as we were too tired to hike back down.

As we were descending the mountain, it started to rain, so we went out to find some more food. We ended up at this place right near the main park that served chocolate fondue. It was good, but the chocolate wasn’t hot, which was a bummer. We then went back to the hotel to rest and then we went to this amazing Thai restaurant, that was called “Little Thai”. It was such a nice break from Italian and Swiss food and the people there were so nice. I suggest going there. I got the chicken satay with peanut sauce… it felt like home.
SUNDAY
We headed out to Zurich mid-morning. The train ride there was beautiful. Unfortunately, it was raining there too and lots of stuff was closed because it was Easter. We went to the Kunsthaus, a museum of modern art.

We spent about two hours there and then went out to grab some dinner at an Asian restaurant. We ended up accidentally walking into the “red light” district and saw a couple of prostitutes standing on the corner. I was very happy to get out of that district and back to the hotel.
MONDAY
We checked out of our hotel and went to look at Lake Zurich. It was pretty, but the weather still wasn’t great. We then walked to the Lindenhof Park to look at the city from above. Afterward, we went to find some food and then took the train to the airport.

Zurich definitely would have been better if we had been there any other weekend. Unfortunately, most everything was closed on Sunday and Monday, and so there were limited restaurant choices. Also, it is true what they say, Switzerland is expensive. We went into a Starbucks, and a tall cafe latte was 5.90 francs, which is crazy! I definitely want to go back to Interlaken and then maybe take some day trips out to the surrounding towns (they look so cute).
Next weekend, I’m staying in town. My grandparents, aunt and uncle, and cousins are coming to Florence soon, so I will be spending time with them.
